Experience

I spent eight years working within a Rape Crisis Centre where I offered face to face and helpline counselling. I co wrote the training package for prospective volunteers and also engaged in a lot of media related work. During my time within Rape Crisis and for a while afterwards I was part of an advisory body to the Metropolitan Police (based at New Scotland Yard) on Rape and Sexual Assaults. This was primarily focussed on improving the treatment and services for victims of these crimes. As part of my rape crisis work I also supervised volunteers within the charity I was working within, and also volunteers who were working for a local Domestic Violence charity. I also sat on the local council Domestic Violence forum.

From Rape Crisis I worked within the NHS as project co-ordinator for a pilot project to both raise awareness of Domestic Violence, and to introduce routine screening for Domestic Violence in A & E and Maternity Departments.

After my work within the NHS I began working for the Priory Hospital within their complex trauma programme. I have been based at the Priory for 10 years and have worked and continue to work extensively with in patients and out patients suffering with either Simple or Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I also have extensive experience both within the Priory and in private practice of working with Depression, Low Self Esteem, and Anxiety related issues. I have also clinically supervised other therapy staff within the Priory.

I have worked within Canterbury Christchurch University as a Senior Lecturer as part of their Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme and within this training I also worked as lead examiner and Clinical Supervisor.

I have also had a private therapy practice for a number of years.

I am registered with the majority of private medical insurance providers including BUPA; AVIVA; WPA; AXA.
